DYE PENETRANT INSPECTION
Dye penetrant inspection (DPI) is a low-cost, efficient inspection method used to locate surface-breaking defects.

DPI can be used to inspect almost any material provided that its surface is not extremely rough or porous. Materials that are commonly inspected include the following:

Metals (aluminum, copper, steel, titanium, etc.)

Glass

Many ceramic materials

Rubber
-
Plastics
The penetrant may be applied to all non-ferrous materials and ferrous materials using the following techniques:

Water washable method

Solvent removable method

Fluorescent Penetrant under UV light
