 DYE PENETRANT INSPECTION

Dye penetrant inspection (DPI) is a low-cost, efficient inspection method used to locate surface-breaking defects. 

​

DPI can be used to inspect almost any material provided that its surface is not extremely rough or porous. Materials that are commonly inspected include the following:

​

  • Metals (aluminum, copper, steel, titanium, etc.)

  • Glass

  • Many ceramic materials

  • Rubber

  • Plastics

 

The penetrant may be applied to all non-ferrous materials and ferrous materials using the following techniques:

​

  • Water washable method

  • Solvent removable method

  • Fluorescent Penetrant under UV light
